[Open-box Review]Nuts Planet 75mm Vagabond Resin Figure by Martin

Company: Nuts Planet. Catalogue Ref: T75002. Sculptor: Joo Heum Yoon. Box Art: Ki Yeol Yoon. Material: Resin.

Forward. Another tantalizing release from the Nuts Planet ‘Trigger’ range has arrived for review. I have been fortunate to review the entire ‘Trigger’ catalogue thus far and have been left highly impressed. Can this Vagabond character live up to expectations? Let’s take a closer look…….. First Impressions. As ever its impossible to fault the superbly impressive and highly practical packaging and presentation from these guys. The suitably strong cardboard box more than adequately protects the kit parts held within while the box art of Ki Yeol Yoon is just sublime. On opening the box you will find three layers of protective sponge, between these you will find the smaller, more delicate resin parts further protected by being placed inside clear plastic re-sealable bags. As is always the case everything arrived in perfect condition with no damage or missing parts. First class service from the company and a great example to others. The Figure. The kit consists of 14 individual resin pieces cast in a light grey colour. The resin is of a high quality being neither to soft or brittle and of a great consistency with which to work. Any seams and flash is kept to an absolute minimum as are the casting blocks. Clean up of individual parts will be straightforward and assembly will prove to be a breeze. Main Body. (photo below) First Impressions straight out of the box are excellent with the depth and level of detail involved immediately obvious. For display purposes I have loosely fitted the separate right leg in the first two photos seen below. The clothing looks fantastically realistic and in keeping with the figure, textures are just superb. The body features are equally impressive and show some highly detailed areas that we shall look at more in depth as the review progresses.

(photo below) The casual top looks great from any angle, from the front the open buttoned collarless appearance is certainly well detailed especially with the folds and creases while the tears seen front and back also help create a convincing character. Just as good are the combat trousers, with heaps of raised detail in the pockets and belt along with the superb looking seams and creases all helping to give outstanding definition.

(photo below) Facial features are well represented and in proper proportions. The eyes, nose, mouth and ears are all clearly defined while the muscle tone around the neck area looks fantastic, as does the hair on the head.

(photo below) The viewing angle is irrelevant, detail is excellent and clearly visible from all sides with the definition superb.

(photo below) Close up and the detail is beautifully crisp and sharp. The shotgun ammunition belt strapped around the right leg is fantastic, lovely detail in the individual cartridge holders and indeed the strap and buckle. The trouser belt is looking fantastic with the slightly raised and curled end along with the belt holes, loops and buckle. The actual trouser material is incredibly realistic with its folds and creases with the fly area showing good definition. The folds on the shirt look very good.

(photo below) From behind the excellent detailing continues. The shirt has a nice crumpled appearance as it sits above the belt with a couple of holes on the left side. Trouser material looks great with the two back pockets and seam down the middle. The belt between the shirt and trousers is well defined.

(photo below) The left leg looks good with the pocket on the side, the opening flap in well undercut so shows good definition. The front pocket looks equally impressive as does the trouser seam. There is a tear included on the material just on the left top corner of the side pocket which adds some detail and the creases and folds of the trouser creates even more realism.

Right Leg. The right leg gives a perfect fit to the body using the locating pin seen on the top, very little is required in the way of clean up before it can be attached. The side pocket looks excellent with a nice undercut to the opening flap adding extra realism. The folds and creases along with the seam of the trouser leg all look impressive.

(photo below) Just wonderful attention to detail seen here in the boot. The laces and sole pattern are clear to see and the way in which the trouser material lays across the boot is just fantastically realistic.

Left Arm. (photo below) Some great detailing involved here. The clothing looks very good indeed with the rolled up sleeve having excellent creases and folds along with a torn appearance. There is also the sweatband with watch worn over, both of which add interest. The arm and hand are beautifully sculpted with great muscle definition on the forearm while the hand shows equally good attention to detail in the fingers.

Right Arm. (photo below) More exceptional detail has been added to the right arm in the way of bandaging on the thumb and index finger of the hand. Great muscle definition on the forearm while the clothing material looks superb on the rolled up sleeve.

Back Pack. (photo below) Looks excellent with plenty of detail including the wear and tear. Although its not intended to be worn on the figure it does make a great accessories addition to include within a vignette or diorama.

Utility Pack One. (photo below) No such figure would be complete without a few utility packs and here we have the first of several included in the kit. Quite tiny as you can see from the photo but still plenty of detail to highlight none the less. Designed to be worn on the figures belt this small pack will be sure to add some extra interest.

Utility Pack Two. (photo below) The second of the utility packs designed to be worn on the figures belt. Slightly larger than the first and still carrying plenty of detail that should be picked out nicely in the painting stage.

Jerry Can. (photo below) Another nice addition to the accessories is this jerry can, nicely detailed it would look great on a vignette with the figure.

Torch. (photo below) Intended to be worn on the figures belt this utility torch looks very impressive and full of detail.

Back Pack Straps. (photo below) The two straps that are fitted to the backpack. As previously mentioned its not designed to be worn by the figure but it does make for a great accessory piece to add to any scene.

Carbine Shotgun. (photo below) I love this addition, looks awesome and holds plenty of detail making it a viable inclusion. The stock has a great shape to it while the pump action mechanism with the serrated grip is awesome. Whilst it not intended to be carried by the figure it could easily be adapted or simply left as is to make a great dio accessory.

Survival Knife. (photo below) So much detail has been crammed into this knife, what a great looking piece. The leather sheath has a recess around its edge and even a loop that secures the knife, the handle of the knife also has a recess rim and a hole at the top for adding a lanyard if you so wish. Fitted to the figures belt this will look the business adding yet more fantastic realism.

Display Base. (photo below) Certainly nothing plain about this base, its one improvement I’ve wanted to see from Nuts Planet. Previously we have often seen just plain disc like offerings but none of that here. The lower level shows great detail in the individual cob stones while the slabs on the higher level show chipping and a natural looking uneven finish. I wasn’t to sure of the inclusion of the teddy bear to begin with but taking into account the fact I see this as an apocalyptic/zombie type figure setting then it actually works ok.

Photos. I have included a selection of photos below for reference purposes. All are from the Nuts Planet Website and Facebook pages showing the fully assembled figure painted by the wonderfully talented artist Ki Yeol Yoon. Only the accessories listed in the review are included, however the extras that you see show just how versatile the figure can be.

Synopsis. This wonderful Vagabond figure reinforces just how much I’m really enjoying these Nuts Planet releases under their ‘Trigger’ range. I can see this being highly popular with its versatility and the possibilities it opens up for any number of settings. The fabulous accessories it comes with is a real step forward as is the base. Hats off to Nuts Planet in employing some seriously talented artists in the sculpting and painting department, long may it continue and long may we keep seeing such excellent releases from the mighty Nuts Planet.
