[Open-box review] Hand the Imp from Nuts Planet by Kevin

Hi Folks , Characters in TV series and films are often the inspiration for subjects for those sculptors out there none more so than the blockbuster Game of Thrones brought to us in film by the legend George RR Martin and just to prove how popular it is as a TV series it was according to TorrentFreak file shared by nearly 6 million people in 2013!!! The characters are all individuals who play a vital part in the story and the series none so more than Tyrian Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage) better known as "Hand the Imp" . According to the Wiki God: Tyrian is shrewd, educated, and calculating, but receives little respect for this from his father, because of his deformity, and for the death of his mother during his birth. He is capable of cruelty to his enemies, but also has great sympathy for fellow outcasts and the mistreated. Even though he is no warrior, he has instances where he shows great bravery; he has stated that what he lacks in size and strength he makes up for in mental acuity. He displays high intelligence and great promise during his brief tenure as the Hand of the King, revealing himself to be as politically savvy and astute as his father, yet receives close to no recognition for it. Tyrian is a dwarf, he has stubby legs, a jutting forehead, mismatched eyes of green and black, and a mixture of pale blond and black hair. His unique stare has been said to make most people uncomfortable, which Tyrian tries to use to his advantage. Small he maybe but I wouldn't want to cross him!!! This is the subject that has been chosen to be released alongside the female character (more on this release soon!!)

Lets see what we are looking at in this review from your scribe:

Title: Hand the ImpReference: NP B010Scale: 1/10thMaterial: Gray ResinNo of parts: 3Sculptor: Jun-Sik AhnBoxt Art: Myeong-Ha Hwang

As always with Nuts Planet packaging was found to be really good with the parts all sandwiched between foam layers providing good protection , the distinctive blue box having full colour pictures of the completed model on the top and side.

On opening the box we are greeted with 3 parts these being the torso , the head and a base .

I will cover prep needed now , on the torso it was the simple removal of a casting plug from the lower edge and some slight sanding at one of the side edges ,after removing this we have a super almost ice rink smooth area to enjoy on the undersides.

There is an area ready to receive the base if you should use it , I would pin as always, when fitted a tiny bit of filler where it meets the underside.

The head has a casting plug to take away on the undersides of the neck itself , angled and easy to do , when done fit is great and looks good.

Looking at the larger of the pieces the torso, our hero wears the jacket as seen in the series and it is packed full of wonderful embossing , this is a painters piece , allowing you to bring a simple piece to life by the painting ...look at the box art for inspiration, good chance to get those details being worked out .

The securing pieces up the middle are finely worked , the coat pulling in at all the correct points as a result.

On his jacket we have the hand badge this is a real gem of sculpting and a focal point of the whole piece

On to the head , this is where it could fall down as its a definate area that had to be spot on and WOW has the sculptor worked his magic on this the facial features are bang on , the nose in particular being of note , the thickset face , strong in character , eyes piercing forward , all with nice definition.

Also vital that the hair was correct and again I take my hat off to Jun - Sik , incredible work all over , it flows over the head curling and moving as we look at it , the hair coming over the forehead beautifully .

Pictures again tell it all...more enjoyment....

The base is the normal pillar version as in other releases from Nuts Planet , perfectly suitable if you chose to use it, prep needed as stated above.

Final Thoughts:

There you have it a true bust and one that has been lovingly sculpted , the series is very popular and this will be as well , sculpting top notch , casting the same presentation as expected well up to the standard we have seen previously . This is without doubt a painters piece and will result in a fine display in the cabinet ...and its a good excuse to watch all the series .....reference of course!!!If you haven't tried something different from your normal military projects this is the ideal one ...fast to get ready and a challenge to paint .
